📲 How to Set Up Motion Zones in the Blink App

Motion zones are a great way to minimize unwanted alerts from passing cars, swaying trees, or nosy squirrels. If you’re using a Blink camera, the app lets you customize exactly where you want motion detection to be active. Here’s how to set it up in under 5 minutes.

✅ What You’ll Need

  • A Blink camera (any model with motion detection)
  • The Blink Home Monitor app (updated version)
  • A configured system with your camera already added

🧭 Step-by-Step: Setting Motion Zones

Step 1: Open the Blink App

  1. Launch the Blink Home Monitor app on your smartphone.
  2. Select the camera for which you want to adjust motion zones.

Step 2: Access Camera Settings

  1. Tap the Settings icon (gear) next to the camera name.
  2. Scroll down to find the Motion Settings section.

Step 3: Tap on “Motion Zones.”

  • You’ll see a screenshot-like image from your camera’s view.
  • The image is broken into a grid of boxes (zones).

Step 4: Customize Your Zones

  • Tap the boxes to gray them out, meaning motion will not be detected in that area.
  • Leave the critical zones clear/blue to enable motion detection.

🎯 Example: If your camera faces a street, block off the bottom or side area where cars pass to reduce false alerts.

Step 5: Save Your Changes

  • After selecting your zones, tap Save in the top right corner.
  • Your motion zone preferences will be active immediately.

🔁 Want to Adjust Later?

You can return to Motion Zones anytime and update your preferences as lighting, weather, or room setups change.

⚠️ Pro Tips:

  • For outdoor cameras, avoid setting motion zones on areas with constant movement (trees, busy roads).
  • Test your setup by walking through your active zones and checking for alerts.
  • For best results, combine motion zones with sensitivity settings in the same menu.
